We are happy to announce the first international masterclass of the Erasmus+ project Values in Motion: an online training session dedicated to storytelling, creativity and stop‑motion animation in educational contexts.

This masterclass represents an important first step in the dissemination activities of the project and is open to teachers, educators, cultural operators, students and anyone interested in using audiovisual language as a learning tool.

An online masterclass on storytelling and stop motion

Titled “The Art of Creating Stories – Pre‑production for Stop‑Motion Short Films: Tools and Tips for the Classroom”, the masterclass focuses on the pre‑production phase of a stop‑motion short film, with particular attention to storytelling and planning.

The session is designed especially for school and educational settings, offering practical tools that can be easily adapted to classrooms, workshops and informal learning environments.

The masterclass will be held online, making it accessible to participants from different countries and educational backgrounds.

What the masterclass will cover

During the session, participants will explore:

  • From script to storyboard: how to plan a story and simplify it while preserving its meaning
  • Visual storytelling in stop motion: cinematic language, framing, transitions and rhythm
  • The Grammar of Fantasy by Gianni Rodari and the art of inventing stories
  • Pre‑production essentials: planning, workspace organization and practical advice for a smooth shooting process
  • Software and applications for creating stop‑motion animations in educational settings

Through practical examples and live drawing, the tutor will demonstrate how a storyboard can still clearly convey a story even when frames are removed, encouraging clarity, creativity and an effective use of resources.

The tutor: Coke Riobóo

The masterclass will be led by Coke Riobóo, stop‑motion animator, musician and film composer.

Winner of the Goya Award for El Viaje de Said (2006), Coke Riobóo has directed and animated several short films, an internet series and numerous commercial projects. He has also composed soundtracks for short and feature films and has been teaching stop‑motion animation in workshops around the world for many years.

Together with Lourdes Villagómez, he founded L.I.A. – Laboratorio de Imagen Animada, a travelling animation lab dedicated to animation education and experimentation.

Language and accessibility

The masterclass will be held in Spanish. All registered participants will receive:

  • the link to attend the live session

  • access to the recorded masterclass with English subtitles

This ensures accessibility for an international audience and allows participants to revisit the content after the live event.
