We are pleased to announce the second international masterclass of the Erasmus+ project Values in Motion: an online training session dedicated to collaborative storytelling, creativity and stop-motion animation in educational contexts.

This masterclass represents a significant step in the dissemination activities of the project and is open to teachers, educators, cultural operators, students and anyone interested in using audiovisual language as a powerful learning tool. The session will be held entirely in English, reinforcing the international dimension of the project.

Animation as a Collaborative Educational Practice

Titled Collaborative Animation: Stop Motion as an Educational Tool, the masterclass explores stop motion not only as a cinematic technique, but as a participatory and interdisciplinary educational methodology.

The session is designed especially for school and educational settings, offering practical tools that can be easily adapted to classrooms, workshops and informal learning environments.

The masterclass will be held online, making it accessible to participants from different countries and educational backgrounds.

What the masterclass will cover

The session will address:

  • Participatory cinema: the collaborative creation of short films in schools, from initial concept to postproduction, with a focus on animation workflows.
  • Stop motion in education: screening and discussion of recent short films and educational projects developed in workshop contexts.
  • Mixed media approaches: combining stop motion and live action to expand narrative possibilities.
  • Interdisciplinary integration: connecting storyboarding, visual design, poetry and music within the creative process.
  • Pixilation: experimenting with stop motion using human bodies as animated elements.

The tutor: Mario Kreill Cirillo

The masterclass will be led by Mario Kreill Cirillo — author, director and producer — and founder of Fantasmagorie Studio, a production company specializing in stop motion animation.

Since 2015, he has designed and facilitated participatory video and animation workshops for both children and adults, developing an educational approach that blends artistic research, technical experimentation and collaborative learning.

His work demonstrates how animation can become a space for dialogue, expression and collective imagination — perfectly aligned with the core values of the Values in Motion project.

Language and accessibility

The masterclass will be held in English. All registered participants will receive:

  • the link to attend the live session

  • access to the recorded masterclass with English subtitles

This ensures accessibility for an international audience and allows participants to revisit the content after the live event.
